Coastal Carolina Video Recap

22 Dec

Redshirt junior Matt Sundberg scored 15 of his career-high tying 17 points, including a half-court buzzer beater before the half, to lead College of Charleston to a 77-70 road win at Coastal Carolina on Dec. 22 at Kimbel Arena. Sundberg was one of three players to score in double figures for the Cougars. Junior Andrew Lawrence kept CofC ahead in the second half as Coastal Carolina cut into a 17-point lead by the Cougars at the 14:37 minute mark. He knocked down 11 of his game-high 18 points including two key three-pointers in the half to keep the Chanticleers at bay.

The Cougars’ zone defense held Coastal Carolina, the nation’s third-best field-goal shooting team (51.8), to just 46.2 percent from the floor. Former Georgia Tech and NBA star Travis Best spoke to the team in the locker room after the game. He played for Coach Cremins and was drafted in the first round of the 1995 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers. Former CofC standout Tony White, Jr., who is currently playing for the ABA’s South Carolina Warriors, also paid a visit with the Cougars the night before during the team’s dinner at the hotel.
