Appalachian State Presents Next SoCon Test For Cougars

21 Jan

Preseason North Division favorite Appalachian State (8-10, 4-4) will present another Southern Conference test for the College of Charleston men’s basketball team (13-6, 6-1) in a much-anticipated rematch between the two rivals on Saturday, Jan. 22 at Carolina First Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. (ET) and the game will be televised live regionally on SportSouth. The Cougars have won four out of their last five games including a historic 93-64 rout of Western Carolina on Jan. 20 which saw head coach Bobby Cremins earn his 100th career victory at The College and preseason Southern Conference Player of the Year Andrew Goudelock setting the school’s all-time career scoring mark. The SoCon is home to two of the nation’s top 15 scorers in Goudelock (23.8 ppg) and Appalachian State’s Donald Sims (21.4 ppg) who currently rank No. 4 and No. 12 respectively. The Patriot League, Mid-American and BIG EAST Conferences are the only other leagues to boast the same notoriety. CofC is currently tied with previously unbeaten Chattanooga and South Division foe and defending champion Wofford for first-place in the league standings. Offensively, the Cougars are averaging a conference-best 77.7 points per game which ranks No. 31 nationally, while shooting 48.1 percent from the floor (No. 28) this season.
