Conference Supremacy On The Line For Cougars at Chattanooga

16 Jan

Conference supremacy will be on the line as the College of Charleston men’s basketball team (12-5, 5-0) travels to Chattanooga (10-8, 6-0) for a North versus South battle of unbeatens in Southern Conference play on Monday, Jan. 17, at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tenn. Tipoff between the Cougars and Mocs is scheduled for 7 p.m. (ET) and the game will be televised regionally on CSS. CofC and UTC are both currently on a three-game winning streak – the Cougars with victories over Furman, defending league champion Wofford and a recent 21-point rout of The Citadel (87-66) on Jan. 15. They currently lead the league in scoring offense (76.2), field-goal percentage (47.6) and blocked shots (4.0), while Chattanooga is tops in holding opponents to just 32.0 percent shooting from beyond the arc this season. CofC dropped a league season-high 13 three-pointers in its last outing versus the Bulldogs and is one of three teams in the SoCon who have reached 10-or-more overall wins on the season next to UTC and Furman. The Cougars have put together an impressive 6-3 road resume and rank among the top 50 NCAA statistical leaders in field-goal percentage (No. 35) and scoring offense (No. 46) behind the senior leadership of preseason SoCon Player of the Year and the nation’s No. 5 leading scorer in Andrew Goudelock (23.4 ppg).
