Cougars Eye New Year’s Eve Matchup at Tennessee On ESPN2

30 Dec

The College of Charleston men’s basketball team (8-4) embarks on a tough four-game road swing with a New Year’s Eve matchup scheduled at SEC powerhouse and 2010 NCAA Elite Eight participant Tennessee (9-3) on Friday, Dec. 31 at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tenn. Tipoff between the Cougars and Volunteers is set for 2 p.m. (ET) on ESPN2. UT will be the first of three opponents in the next four-game stretch who reached postseason play a year ago as CofC rings in the New Year at CBI quarterfinalist Morehead State on Jan. 2 in Morehead, Ky., and defending Southern Conference champion and NCAA automatic qualifier Wofford on Jan. 8 in Spartanburg, S.C. The Cougars are looking to shake off a 66-59 pre-Christmas holiday loss to Clemson on Dec. 22, which halted a four-game winning streak. They are currently tops in the SoCon and ranked No. 49 in the country in field-goal percentage shooting 47.0 percent from the floor, while the Vols’ defense is holding opponents to a 38.5 percent accuracy this season.
