Cougars To Tangle With Tigers On National Stage

22 Dec

Riding a four-game winning streak, the College of Charleston men’s basketball team (8-3, 2-0) prepares for its third ACC opponent of the season on a national stage by playing host to Clemson (7-4, 0-1) on Wednesday, Dec. 22 at Carolina First Arena. Tipoff between the Cougars and Tigers is set for 7 p.m. (ET) and the game will be televised live nationally on Fox Sports Net. CofC has yet to beat an ACC team this season with close losses at Maryland (75-74) on Nov. 10 in its season opener in the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer and at North Carolina (74-69) on Nov. 28. The Cougars, who carried a similar four-game winning stretch into their last meeting with the Tigers, look to improve on a 39-point rout (94-55) they endured a little over a year ago on the road in Clemson, S.C. This year’s in-state rivalry edition will be a battle of one of the top scoring offenses and top scoring defenses teams in the country. CofC is an unbeaten 4-0 in the month of December and has outscored its last four opponents by an average margin of 11.3 points per game versus Davidson, Georgia Southern, East Tennessee State and Charleston Southern. The Cougars, who rank No. 46 nationally in scoring offense, are 7-0 when scoring 77-or-more points in a contest including a 77-69 win over intracity rival CSU on Dec. 15. Meanwhile, Clemson has held opponents to just 61.0 points per game which ranks 44th-best in the nation. The Cougars are hoping with a full house to entertain and by curtain call, they will have a jump start to one of their toughest two-game stretches of the season as they face No. 18 Tennessee after the Christmas holiday break on Dec. 31 on ESPN2 in Knoxville, Tenn.
