Charleston Southern Video Recap

15 Dec

After being on the road for most of the month of November, the Cougars have enjoyed their time back home in Charleston. The majority of the team lives in the on-campus George Street Apartment Complex and have the convenience of eating meals, including pre-game, at the nearby Liberty Street Fresh Food Company, which serves three meals a day, seven days a week and offers menus from around the globe, pizza and pasta creations, made to order deli specials, freshly baked breads and desserts and a large salad bar.

There is probably no other city in the Southeast with three Division I schools in the area which makes intercity rivalry games so much fun against Charleston Southern and The Citadel. The Cougars always play well at the North Charleston Coliseum which is used mainly for concerts and South Carolina Stingrays Hockey. You could even see the ice through the little cracks on the sidelines of the basketball court and the team coming through a swing door to get to the floor.

One of the most unique things I’ve ever witnessed at a college basketball game was a live band playing pre-game and warm-up music instead of songs blaring out of the loud speaker system in the arena. Since the school pep band was on Christmas holiday break, Charleston Southern University President Dr. Jairy C. Hunter Jr.  son’s rock band played old school tunes ranging from The Who to The Beatles.

Senior Jeremy Simmons turned in a career-game against the Bucs with a career-high 26 points and 15 rebounds which would earn him Southern Conference Player of the Week honors on Dec. 21 🙂
