Rematch With No. 25 North Carolina Up Next For Cougars

26 Nov

The College of Charleston men’s basketball team (4-2) prepares for what will be a heated non-conference battle at No. 25 North Carolina (3-2) on Sunday, Nov. 28, at the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. Tipoff between the Cougars and Tar Heels is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (ET) and the game will be televised live nationally on Fox Sports Net. This will be no ordinary rematch – 328 days will have passed since CofC’s stunning upset of ninth-ranked UNC replayed continuously on the highlight reels of every sports newscast in the nation. Undoubtedly, the third go-around in the 2-for-1 series has been circled on the calendar ever since, in UNC’s quest for redemption. The Cougars have won four of their last five games and are led by preseason Southern Conference Player of the Year Andrew Goudelock, who currently ranks 13th nationally averaging 23.0 points per game. CofC enjoyed a much-needed bye week after going 2-1 in tournament play and playing six games in the course of 12 days with wins over Illinois-Chicago (78-66) and host Toledo (64-51) in the subregional round of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer on Nov. 19-21 in Toledo, Ohio. Sunday’s contest will mark only the second time the Cougars have ever played on the road in Carolina Blue territory (0-1) and will conclude a three-game series with UNC. The Tar Heels are an undefeated 2-0 on their home court this season and have only lost 56-of-350 (.840) all-time matchups contested in the Dean Dome since 1986. With added depth and the majority of last year’s squad returning, the Cougars will take their chances of trying to beat the odds once again.
