2K Sports Classic Video Recap

11 Nov

The College of Charleston traveled this week to defending ACC regular-season champion Maryland for the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer in College Park, Md. Thanks to the generous support of the Cougar Club and the program’s boosters who traveled with the team, the Cougars flew first-class on a chartered flight from Charleston to the Washington, D.C., metro area, for the team’s much-anticipated 2010-11 season opener. It was the first flight ever for freshman guard Jordan Scott from Darlington, S.C., who was later put at ease by his fellow teammates and coaches.

The funniest moments of the trip included freshman James Carlton being disappointed that there were no SkyMall magazines located in the seat pocket of the plane to browse through during the flight as well as CofC Head Coach Bobby Cremins’ entertaining “tour guide” bus announcements upon landing in Maryland. We were all in tears laughing at his unintended jokes and humor 🙂

It was also a homecoming of sorts for CofC Director of Athletics Joe Hull, who is a North Carolina native, but spent 10 years as Senior Associate AD at Maryland prior to his appointment at The College. Hull showed off the Comcast Center, a major building project of his during his time with the Terrapins, and our travel party definitely saw first hand, why it is one of the toughest venues to play in all of college basketball.

On the sidelines prior to the game, Coach Cremins reunited with one of his good friends in Maryland Head Coach Gary Williams. Both are on the Coaches vs. Cancer Council and do a lot of work for charities off-the-court. He was proud to introduce his staff to Coach Williams, including his new director of basketball operations in his nephew, Jonathan Cremins. Another new face to the staff is Jeff McCarragher, the new Voice of the Cougars, who called his first CofC game at Comcast Center.

The Cougars were definitely on a mission once they stepped off the plane and the team’s performance before a national audience on ESPNU was proof of it. Here’s a video recap of the 24+ hours spent in Our Nation’s Capital.
